Love Spoon - Kolrosing
Beginning 300+ years ago, these spoons would be presented to a woman as a gift, serving two purposes - proposal for marriage and showcasing one’s dedication. Mostly carved by sailors, the designs carved into the spoons had several meanings - Luck, wealth, good fortune and security. Ornately decorated and crafted with the intent of eternal love.
This is my take on this fantastic type of historical spoon. I used Kolrosing as the main decorative style, and incorporated various Scandinavian and Slavic folk art motifs. Two matching cat images were used to represent the male and female, along with the overhead phrase “Eternal Love”. The backside has been dated, and my logo/makers mark has also been added. Finally, scarlet red milk paint was used to highlight the inside of the heart.
This spoon was a labor of love, and a huge enjoyment to make.
It’s now available for anyone who may be interested. Waiting to be presented to that special someone or kept dear to oneself.
Approximately 25cm long and 11.5cm wide (largest point)
